Dylan B. - "The Field Trip"

Buck Smith was a government professor at Harvard University. He spent most of his days sitting in his little office connected to his large, cold, dark classroom.

Most students avoided Mr. Smith because he didn’t like his job, and usually wanted nothing to do with the students.

There was one annual event that Mr. Smith put on each year. Most students took his class because of it.

Buck Smith took his whole class to the beach for a week instead of school. The only reason Mr. Smith did this is because the head master wouldn’t let him take a week off to head to the beach. So, Buck had to compromise and make it a yearly “field trip.”

Of course Mr. Smith wasn’t too happy bringing along the 64 students in his class for a week to the beach, but it was his only hope.

When the time came for the field trip, the students and Mr. Smith loaded up in ten different cars (Buck in his own by himself) and drove towards the nearest coastal town.

When they arrived, they all noticed the weather wasn’t looking too good.

“Great,” Buck thought, “Just to ruin my vacation, as if these kids aren’t enough.”

It continued to rain the next few days, and everyone ended up staying inside most of the time. Mr. Smith was not at all happy, in fact he made everyone sit in the living room and he taught them all government.

The students were not exactly happy about this. They all joined his class because of this one trip, and now he was teaching them government while it stormed outside.

All the students were day dreaming, and were secretly packing their beach bags and checking the weather on their phones.

Suddenly, one of the students yelled,” It stopped raining!” And everyone ran, nearly trampling Mr. Smith.

“Wait!” Mr. Smith called, “we need to leave in an hour.”

The students moaned and came back inside. They began packing their bags.

But, when Mr. Smith arrived back on campus, he noticed that no other cars were pulling in. He checked his phone and sure enough, there was a voicemail stating that the whole class would be missing government for a week. They claimed the “field trip” was to be longer.

Mr. Smith sighed, but he actually was happy in the inside.

“Now I can have my vacation,” he exclaimed! And one hour later he was skiing the slopes of the nearby ski resort.
