Alexa P. - "Will Ya, Won't Ya, Ain't Ya Gonna"

My mother never stops talking about Jesus. But in this true story, the boy’s mother never lets him tell her about Jesus.

At camp every year, the worship leader Cal always tells this story about a boy he met one year at camp. The boys’ friend invited him one day to Vacation Bible School. That day was the first time he had ever heard about Jesus.

At home his mother had a little song that she always sang to get her son to do his chores. And this is how it goes:

Will ya, won’t ya, ain’t ya gonna,
If I coax ya, won’t ya wanta,
Aww come on, ya said ya would,
Why don’t ya, wanta do the trash,
Shoo be do whop! Ohhh!

After camp, he asked his mother if he could tell her about his day. Unfortunately, she said how about tonight after she finished washing the dishes. The boy agreed and didn’t think about it all day.

Eventually, he remembered and asked her again. Once again, she said it was not a good time. The boy moped back into bed, still waiting to tell his mother about his day.

Days go by which turned into months, and months turned into years. In the meantime, he forgot to tell his mother about camp. Finally, he remembered and asked his mother to talk. Once again, she rescheduled it for another time.

The same routine continues for years. Eventually, the boy becomes a man and has moved out of his mother’s house. The day of camp is still long forgotten.

One day, he gets a phone call from his father. He learns that his mother is in the hospital and she might not have a lot of time to live. The man packs up some of his things and quickly goes to the hospital to visit his mother .

When they arrived, he finally remembered he hadn’t told his mom about camp. He quickly thinks of how he can tell his mother about Jesus before it’s too late. Finally, he had a solution and sang to his mom:

Will ya, won’t ya, ain’t ya gonna,
If I coax ya, won’t ya wanta,
Aww come on, ya said ya would,
Why don’t ya, wanta talk about Jesus,
Shoo be do whop! Ohhh!

Then, his mother said, “Why don’t we talk about Jesus.”

The mother and son talked for hours. By the time he left, she had accepted Jesus. Later in the day, the mother passed away. At least we know she loved Jesus - shoo be do whop!

Chase T. - "Which One?"

Have you ever had to make a tough choice? Well if you know what it feels like then you will understand. If you don’t know you’ll find out.

One day a little boy name Fernando Chaves said, “I’m going to the best soccer player in the world”. So of course he pressed and practiced 24/7. His parents put him on a traveling team at the age of 8, and then at the age of 12 he joined the under 13 Spanish National Team. When he was 20 he moved up to the Spanish Men’s National Team. When he got moved up to the Men’s National Team he got married, and a year later he had a daughter.

Of course it’s not all that simple. Their marriage was falling apart, because Fernando was traveling everywhere and his wife, Alicia couldn’t go because of the baby. They didn’t know that having a baby would be so hard on their marriage.

He was in his prime and nothing could stop him. His team had just won the club world championship. And his national team Spain was in the world cup quarter finals. He thought he was king until his wife told him she wanted a divorce if he didn’t give her and his 2 year old daughter more time. She asked him to really think about it, and that he only had two weeks to act upon it. The problem was that the world cup final was in three weeks and he couldn’t stop at the quarter finals.

The quarter final was against Brazil in France. It was going to start in an hour and he couldn’t stop thinking about what Alicia had said. Then the next thing he knew the game started. He was an offensive player and the team captain. Spain started off with the ball and they dribbled the ball up to the box and Fernando’s teammate passed the ball to him. He shot and he missed. Later on in the 56th minute Fernando shot right at the Brazilian goal keeper. The Brazilian goal keeper kicked the ball real quick to his teammate, and then he passed to another teammate and he headed it in on Spain. Five minutes later in the 61st minute Fernando dribbled the ball up to penalty box, shot and scored. With only 5 minutes left in the game, Fernando scored again and everyone cheered, and he won the game for Spain. He was so thrilled.
When he went back to the hotel in Paris to see his wife and daughter they were gone. His wife had left a note, and it said, “Hope to see you in a week Love, Alicia”. That’s when he truly realized she was serious, but he still moved forward.
Two hours before the semifinal and two days left before Alicia got the divorce papers. When he was getting dressed he froze for a long time. Then his friend asked, “You ok?” then he said, “Yeah”, “I need to catch a plane.” “What?” his friend said as Fernando ran off.

He got on the first plane he could get to Barcelona, Spain. When he got off the plane he ran to a taxi. Then the taxi drove him to his house. When the little girl saw her dad, she said “Mommy, I see daddy.” The mom looked through the window and saw Fernando and they ran to him. Once Fernando saw them he said, “I’m sorry”, and they forgave him. They made up and spent the rest of their life together. Spain won the semifinals and the Championship. He was glad he made that choice, because their marriage had never been better.

Katlyn S. - "I Love You Very Much"

“I will pick you up from school today,” said her father.

She walked to her classroom, not wanting to go to school hoping to go to work with her father.

“Bye daddy I love you, don’t be late to pick me up. Asked Emily eagerly.

Walking away he knew he was going to be late for work. Not knowing that he was being followed. Driving away not remembering he had forgotten Emily’s lunch box.

“Daddy Daddy!! My lunch box Daddy!” cried Emily.

He quickly ran back to her classroom to give Emily her Hannah Montana pop star lunch box with a GoGurt enter to win a grand prize sweepstakes to a Justin Bieber concert with VIP seats and a meet and greet after the show. Also with dads best PB&J sandwich with only Wonder Bread, and a Capri Sun with a silly straw, and always a surprise warm fresh baked brownie that her mommy gives to her everyday with a note saying “I love you!”

“Thank you daddy! Now hurry and get to work I don’t want you to be late.”

Rushing back to his car, he was scheduled for a 9:45 meeting. He quickly had to get to Time Square.

He quickly speed through all the cities and made it 5 minutes to spare.

While Emily was at school she day dreamed about her lunch. The warm fresh baked brownie, the delicious GoGurt, the best PB&J sandwich, and a Capri sun with a silly straw, and the best thing ever, the note “I Love You.”

She dreamed about her dad picking her up from school and taking her to McDonald's to get a kids meal with a 4 piece chicken McNuggets with a small fry and a toy after I finish her chicken McNuggets.

“Emily, please pay attention” her teacher informed.

“Sorry.” said Emily.

The rest of the day, she played on the swing set and the slide, and read the Three Little Pigs, and enjoyed her delicious lunch.

The day finally ended and she waited for her dad to pick her up. He came speeding through the school gate.

“Daddy why are you so late?” said Emily.

“Sorry Emily I had an important meeting that I could not miss.” said her father.

“Its okay, can we still go to McDonald's?” said Emily

Her father shook his head with satisfaction and drove toward Mc Donald's. They finally arrived to get a bite to eat.

“What would you like Emily?” said her father.

“I would like a kids meal with 4 piece chicken McNugget, a small fry and can I please have a toy” Emily said eagerly.

“Sure, anything else?” said the cashier.

They quickly received there food and sat right next to the playpen where kids would play right after they would finish all there food.

“Order number 77 said the cashier, have a nice day.”

Emily opened her nuggets and ate a french fry. She later finished all her food and even got a refill.

“Daddy can I please go inside the playpen?” asked Emily.

“Sure, but first I have VERY important news to tell you.

“What?!?” Emily asked enthusiastically

“Your mother and I are... having a baby!”

Emily was so excited she hardly wait to have a new brother or sister.

The day finely came. Her mother was rushed to the hospital. The baby was too early and because of this. The baby died. Her father did not want to tell Emily the dreadful news.

“Emily there is something I need to tell you, your mother was taken to the hospital today, the baby came too early and, it died.

Emily was very upset about this painful news.

“Just remember Emily your mother and I love you very much and nothing could change that.”

“At least she is in Heaven, and we love you her very much.”

Megan M. - "Starting Out in Syllica"

On An icy, murky alley, she waited, flinching at every possible movement on the boulevard. She was waiting. For what? Someone that would never come? Who knew. We may never know for goodness sake!

At last a flurry of steps came up to her box. She idled in her place, like a person waiting for their things in line. Finally, she got up enough courage to move the lid so she could see out of the crippled piece of junk.

Like waking up on Christmas morning, her heart and head filled with joy, but her instinct kept her from presenting her feelings. The one she was waiting for!

Finally she emerged. In sallow robes, the girl ran to embrace the one that she was waiting for.

Startled, the visitor shrieked, but with joy!! “Friend!!! I have waited for you forever!!!!!!!!”, said the Stranger.

They exclaimed with joy for the first time years!! You see, a few years ago, the ruler of their once beautiful city vanished after a raid started amuck the hustle and bustle.

After the raid, a new king emerged. He looked like the nicest guy ever! But, NEVER judge a book by its cover, because the pages in this one are filled in between with malice and hate. In other words, he was wicked and despicable. His name was King Sagan, ruler of the dark side.

King Sagan threatened to everyone in the city. If they so much as struggle, their churches and bibles would be torn apart, piece by piece. He also stated that their ruler would be hung if they try to escape from Syllica.

Destroying the city of Syllica was not easy, for God protected the city! Best he could though. But, after the rant of Sagan, almost all was lost. For weeks, the inhabitants of Syllica were so deprived though, they were happy enough to get a drink of swamp water and the crumbs of old bread.

After the city was invaded, laws were made that put the community’s life at stake. Silly laws too! If you didn’t wear green on some days, you’d be put in jail for 3 months.

Some children were sent to labor camps. Others were maids. The only other option in this circumstance was to have their life taken. But the one rule stayed the same. No families were put together.

Although some went to the Lord, others were spared to become protectors of the world, going as far as Bejing! (By the way, the protectors were the good guys.)

Which leads us up to date, AND a perfect cliffhanger!

Sheratyn C. - "The Wedding Bouquet"

I’m so excited I just got put in my box and the bride is on her way to get
me! I hope she thinks I’m as beautiful as I think I am! As her car pulls
up I can hear the engine stop. I start to think, does she love me? As she
walks in I can hear the excitement in her voice as she asks to see me. As
she picks me up, she gasps and starts to cry as she comments on how
beautiful I am. I feel joy that she loves me.

We travel to the church and I am careful to not lose any of my pedals. In
the brides room I can feel the excitement of the bridesmaids as they comment
on how beautiful the bride is. The bride pulls me out of the box to show me
off as her mother walks in. Her mother tells her how beautiful she is and
how I compliment her dress. I can tell she’s nervous as she gripping me
tightly.

She begins walking down the hall toward the ceremony, her grip is getting
tighter the closer she get to the door. She stops a foot away from the door,
her palms now sweaty and her breathing heavier than before. She is twirling
me in her hands. I can feel the hands of her father close around hers as he
kisses her on the cheek and says he loves her. They walk to the door. She
holds me close to her face and takes a long deep breathe just as the doors
open. Her hands get even sweatier and her grip tighter. I can see all the
guests rise as they watch the bride walk by. I can see the excitement in the
groom’s eyes as the bride gets closer. I am held against her body as the
ceremony starts.

As the bride passes me to one of her bridesmaids I can feel her shaking. The
bride doesn’t want to give me up. I watch as the groom takes the bride’s
hands and says the magical words “I Do.” I am handed back to the bride, this
time I notice her grip isn’t as tight as before. I can feel a sense of
relief in her grip. Her palms are not sweaty and I can now feel a ring on
her left hand. As the bride turns to face the guests she smells me once more
and I can feel the excitement in the room. As they are walking back down the
aisle now, as man and wife, the groom comments on my beauty, I have done my
job!

I am excited with the results of this wedding. The bride loved me, the
ceremony was beautiful, I did my job as the wedding bouquet. I hope that
every wedding would be this perfect. Everything was great. I wish for the
bride to live her happily ever after.

Penelope E. - "What is Intelligence to Us?"

To a lot of people, knowledge is everything. I know each of us will all need intelligence at some point, whether knowing the difference between what’s wrong and what’s wrong, or “acing” a test. We will all need knowledge and understanding. People try to figure out what our world would be like without intelligence. But in order to answer that question, we need to know what exactly intelligence is. Intelligence is the ability to learn and understand what a certain thing is or to have a high yearning to learn about factual matters. So, without intelligence, our lives would pretty much be nothing. In order to live our lives as we do every day, we need to know exactly how things work and what we need to do in order to survive. Without intelligence, we wouldn’t know that we need to eat or drink water to live. Sure we might figure it out sooner or later but most of the time we need intelligence right away! It helps us in our lives everyday even though we might not know it. I’m sure that most people don’t sit around all day and wonder what intelligence is and how it benefits us today but learning more and more all throughout our lives is vital. Without the ability to learn, we wouldn’t be able to mature and grow mentally. We would really know nothing about the world we live in today. We wouldn’t be able to teach other people about God. We wouldn’t have languages to learn since we couldn’t communicate, and schools would be utterly unimportant and nonexistent because what we do at schools is, of course, learn. In the Bible there are several passages that mention intelligence and its importance to us in our lives. As a matter a fact, Proverbs 19:8 writes, “He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; He who keeps understanding will find good.” Also, Isaiah 1:17 says, “Learn to do good; seek justice, rebuke the oppressor; defend the fatherless, plead for the widow.” Another way the Bible emphasizes the importance of intelligence and understanding is found in Proverbs 16:22, “Understanding is a wellspring of life to him who has it. But the correction of a fool is folly. What all of these verses are saying is that understanding is good for you and that it’ll be well for you as long as you always have understanding, knowledge, and intelligence. God’s telling us in Isaiah 1:17 is that we need to learn to do good we need to understand how to do good things and do good towards others. So, if you don’t have intelligence…get some!

Dane N. - "Pound the Rock"

Danny Paterson was a 7th grade boy who lived in Lansing, MI and went to Jefferson Jr. High (home of the Hurricanes). His favorite sport was football, but he had been back up quarterback for the whole season. Lance McNabb, the star 8th grade quarterback who was the coolest and most popular, was also a jerk to all the 7th graders.

It was the semi-final game, 4th quarter with 2 minutes to go. Jefferson Jr. High was down 27-21 to the undefeated Houghton Lake Chargers. The Hurricanes had the ball on their own ten yard line. Danny was on the bench and was wondering if he should quit football because it wasn’t worth it anymore. Then he decided to just watch the game. Third and seven, Lance McNabb did a rollout to the left and took off to first down marker. Then he got clobbered by the all-star linebacker Eli Woods. Lance couldn’t get up. The coach made sure he was ok and it turned out that he broke some ribs. “Danny, get in at QB,” said coach Griffin. Danny jumped up and ran out on the field and called a play. There was 45 seconds left on the clock and Danny threw a quick bullet to their star receiver Brandon Knight and it was too high. Thirty seconds left and Danny called the play. ”Pound the Rock,” is what his Dad has always told him when nothing would go well for him. Pound the rock means when you want to give up; you need to summon all your energy and be like God and the rock, meaning nothing can break you. Danny received the snap and threw a hail mary to the end zone where Brandon caught it and they won the game.

The next week at school Danny was now the most popular kid around. He wasn’t picked last in P.E. soccer, the girls would hang around him, and everyone liked him. He was so caught up in the moment that he was late to all the practices and he didn’t care.

It was the championship game, Danny started at QB, and they were against the high powered team called the Detroit Nationals. The first play of the game, Danny hiked the ball and threw an interception for a touchdown. It was the 4th quarter and Danny had yet to complete a pass with 4 interceptions and 2 fumbles. The score was 17-0 with the Hurricanes losing. All Danny could think about was how mad and tired he was. Then he remembered….. “Pound the rock, pound the rock,” and he prayed to God that he could lead his team to a win. The next play, he rolled out and ran 68 yards for the touchdown and believed that he could win. He summoned all his energy and brought them back within one point. The score stood at 21-20 with 12 seconds left and Danny had to kick it in for three points. The ball was snapped, the kick was up, and he missed. The ball was kicked too far left and they lost the game. Even though they lost Danny ran off the field as a winner.

Danny later went to the Michigan State University and was the teams’ star quarterback and won the Heisman trophy as a senior. He graduated with a degree in Animal Science and lived the rest of his life as a winner.

Kirstin C. - "Ethan's Journey"

It all started on a Thursday night when my family was making dinner. We got a call from my Aunt Carrie with a startling tone in her voice. My mother says “what’s wrong? Is somebody hurt? Do u need help?” my aunt just starts balling saying, “Ethan just got hit in the cheek with a hedge trimmer and we need Shawn to be at the clinic as fast as he can it’s pretty bad. My mom says ok, hangs up, calls my neighbor Stacy and takes my sister, brother, and I over to her house. My mom says to us “everything will be fine. I’ll explain it when I get home. Then immediately my parents both jump in the car and go down the street to the clinic. My heart sinks to my stomach and my stomach drops like when you drop a bowling ball flat on the floor. A million things race through my mind like what happened? Is he ok? What’s going to be the news when my parents come back home? Then an idea struck me like a lightning bolt. Just pray for him. Stop questioning and just pray.

I started praying “dear lord, please help my cousin as he got some kind of injury. Please help him because he’s only 1 and might not know what is going on. Please just give my dad wisdom to just fix whatever he may have done. I also prayed that you the Lord may give my family peace as they are working on him, to just feel your presents and to know that you are there for them. Lord you are an awesome and powerful God and know that you can do great things just please give us one of your blessing tonight Lord. Amen.

After I was done praying my neighbor had us read a devotional and play board games with her sons to get our mind off of thing. We played Bingo, Uno, and cards. It was fun but let me tell you it was hard to get my mind off of things when all I wanted to know, was how Ethan was, but had to wait.

About an hour and a half past until my parents came home with some shocking news. We sat at the table and my mom told us that when my aunt was making dinner my cousin unlocked the the sliding glass door, opened it and got out to the back yard where my uncle was trimming the hedges. My uncle couldn’t hear Ethan out there with the noise of the trimmer. Ethan saw my uncle up on a ladder so he thinks whatever they can do he can do too. So he climbed up the ladder behind my uncle, right when Ethan gets right below my uncle my uncle turns around and accidentally sliced my cousin Ethan cheek wide open.

Right when she was done telling the story she tells us he has forty stitches on his face and has a scare for life. Dad said it might move up to his ear to his head but is not positive. I was in shock and was thankful to God that he was watching over our family that night.

Today we thank God that Ethan is doing well, his face is healing very well and all that matters is that he is still here with us and the damage was not worse.

Mark T. - "Life in Class"

Math is usually my favorite subject but today with Mr. Smith rambling on and on about commutative and associative properties even Einstein would have been counting the seconds until next period with the rest of the class.

Now Mr. Smith isn’t a bad teacher, in fact I really liked him; he just gets carried away sometimes. BRING! BRING! The bell for last period rang “For homework do pages twenty-two and twenty-three. There will be a quiz on Wednesday. Class dismissed!” Mr. Smith said in his deep voice.

We all filed out through the door into a steadily building stream of people. I made way through the crowd to my last class, History, which is my least favorite class for three reasons. One, the teacher, Mr. Kalama, or Mr. K, is a History Geek, who can talk two days straight about topics that make your mind rot. Second, his classroom is plastered with posters of monsters from every ancient mythology you could think of. And third, Mr. Kalama hates me. It wasn’t my fault his poodle has pink fur. I was just painting, it was the dog that got to close.

BRING! BRING! The tardy bell rang. “Good afternoon class. Today I would like to point out my new poster of a bull Cyclopes,” he said, all the while glaring at me.
“If everyone could hand in the assignment,” after this was done he started droning on about Phillip III of Macedonia or Alexander the Great.

Finally, the bell rang and we all got up to go. “Mr. Phillips come here a second, “he said. I reluctantly came over, “Give this to your mom, tell her I send my best regards,” he said handing me an envelope. I smiled and walked away.

My mom was already waiting for me when I got out. “Here,” I said, tossing her the envelope.

“What’s this?”She said starting the engine and pulling out.

“It’s a note from Mr. Kalama. He told me to give it to you,”

“Oh, that’s nice. We went to college together,” We rode on in silence.
On the elevator my mom asked, “Do you want to bake a birthday cake?”

“I guess,” I replied.

“Okay, I’ll try to find my chocolate cake recipe.”

When I was little I always loved backing a cake with my mom and dad, the day before my birthday, but now without my dad it really isn’t the same. My dad had disappeared around two years ago, yet I still thought of him every second. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and think I hear his voice, but now I’m turning thirteen, and I’ve given up all hope of him coming home.

“Help me put this in the oven would you.”Just then the doorbell rang. My mom walked to the door and opened it. It was not my dad, or anyone I knew, it was a total stranger.

Jonna L. - "My First Wedding"

Here I am sitting in the middle of a bright green table. The table is decorated with cream plates and shiny silverware. There are also orange rose pedals scattered on the table. There are also many people surrounding me.

There is a beautiful lady dressed in a very elegant white dress. It has many sparkly beads around the waist. Then it poofs out like a big ball gown. Next to her there is a man dressed in a brown tux and a green tie.

Then some music starts and the bride and groom walk toward the dance. They twirled and spun around the dance floor until the song ended.

Then they went back to their seats to eat. For dinner they had some juicy steak with mashed potatoes and for the kids they had chicken strips with French fries. They had many other different food choices too. For dessert they had Fresno State ice cream with a whole bunch of toppings like Oreos, chocolate chips, gummy worms, M&Ms, and several other types of candies.

In one of the corners there was a photo booth were you could get your picture taken with different props like big sunglasses, funky hats and clown noses. I saw the three flower girls getting their picture taken with the bride. It was really cute.

After dinner is when all the dancing started. The people were going crazy. Some people were swinging from one side of the dance floor to the other. They also did this dance where all of the guests held on to each other’s shoulders and they half danced, half walked around the room.

A while later, the party ended, and everyone said goodbye to the bride and groom. I was left in the big dark room all alone.

In the morning, I was given to one of the little girls who didn’t think the party was over. She would run up and down the hallways of the hotel carrying me. I don’t think she knew that I was losing my petals because of her. She was also very fascinated by the glass elevator. You could see down from eight stories high.

She also took me to breakfast with her. She ate some French toast and had a glass of orange juice. Then she left and went to play again.

Later on it was time to go home. Everyone was saying their goodbyes and starting to go home. As I was put in the car I looked back and thought of how much fun everyone had.

Jack R. - "World Series"

As I walk into the ballpark and see over 6,000 people there just to see us play I start to realize how much I am blessed. So I start to wonder, how loud will this place be if we won? How long would people stay? Would this game go into extra innings? So I thought about it this place is going to be loud, people will stay, it won’t go in to extra innings because we will run rule them. But how will this affect my life? When I go shopping will people say “hey you’re that kid from Visalia” or will they not and just walk by.

The game has started Visalia is up 3 to 0 as we head to the bottom of the 1st. The crowd roars louder and louder as the game goes on. Nearing the end of the game the fans stand on their feet as the final pitch is thrown and our hearts are pounding with excitement and the batter strikes out to end the game. As we enter the dog pile I start to think we just won the World Series! I can’t believe this. But I don’t feel special because it hasn’t hit me yet but in a couple of days I’m sure it will. Once I saw our trophies I was like this is insane because they are crystal. The championship trophy is solid crystal with a gold tint and it was heavy I mean it was like thirty pounds. I mean this is really something special to win and be the first home team to ever win it.

Celebrating on the field was special to because we signed a bunch of autographs and pictures for our fans who we didn’t even know. I had about an 8 year old girl come up to me and ask me for my autograph and it touched me because people care they don’t just read about us in the paper and be like well good job for them. No they come out to support us. For people whom I don’t know to say good job on winning the World Series to me is feeling like no other. Not only by putting a smile on my face but as well as others is special too.

Losing in the World Series when we were ten fired us up to win the next one when we were 12. And we did it and we are the champions of the 2011 World Series!
