Kirstin C. - "Ethan's Journey"

It all started on a Thursday night when my family was making dinner. We got a call from my Aunt Carrie with a startling tone in her voice. My mother says “what’s wrong? Is somebody hurt? Do u need help?” my aunt just starts balling saying, “Ethan just got hit in the cheek with a hedge trimmer and we need Shawn to be at the clinic as fast as he can it’s pretty bad. My mom says ok, hangs up, calls my neighbor Stacy and takes my sister, brother, and I over to her house. My mom says to us “everything will be fine. I’ll explain it when I get home. Then immediately my parents both jump in the car and go down the street to the clinic. My heart sinks to my stomach and my stomach drops like when you drop a bowling ball flat on the floor. A million things race through my mind like what happened? Is he ok? What’s going to be the news when my parents come back home? Then an idea struck me like a lightning bolt. Just pray for him. Stop questioning and just pray.

I started praying “dear lord, please help my cousin as he got some kind of injury. Please help him because he’s only 1 and might not know what is going on. Please just give my dad wisdom to just fix whatever he may have done. I also prayed that you the Lord may give my family peace as they are working on him, to just feel your presents and to know that you are there for them. Lord you are an awesome and powerful God and know that you can do great things just please give us one of your blessing tonight Lord. Amen.

After I was done praying my neighbor had us read a devotional and play board games with her sons to get our mind off of thing. We played Bingo, Uno, and cards. It was fun but let me tell you it was hard to get my mind off of things when all I wanted to know, was how Ethan was, but had to wait.

About an hour and a half past until my parents came home with some shocking news. We sat at the table and my mom told us that when my aunt was making dinner my cousin unlocked the the sliding glass door, opened it and got out to the back yard where my uncle was trimming the hedges. My uncle couldn’t hear Ethan out there with the noise of the trimmer. Ethan saw my uncle up on a ladder so he thinks whatever they can do he can do too. So he climbed up the ladder behind my uncle, right when Ethan gets right below my uncle my uncle turns around and accidentally sliced my cousin Ethan cheek wide open.

Right when she was done telling the story she tells us he has forty stitches on his face and has a scare for life. Dad said it might move up to his ear to his head but is not positive. I was in shock and was thankful to God that he was watching over our family that night.

Today we thank God that Ethan is doing well, his face is healing very well and all that matters is that he is still here with us and the damage was not worse.
