Christmas is one of everyone's favorite holidays. Although only fortunate families get to
celebrate it the real way, many people still only wish that they could celebrate it like us. The
many people that live on streets or in homeless shelters or maybe even barely making a living,
working everyday trying to provide for their own families, cannot afford Christmas.
Us people who are able to afford Christmas don't know how special this holiday really is. The
people who can't even afford to buy one present, are surprised when they get food or even just a
small present that we think doesn't cost anything, on Christmas day. That is why the many people who work at the Rescue Missions all around the world feel like they have done something right by serving the needy and making their lives a little easier and a lot happier.
When one person serves at the Rescue Mission, that encourages everyone else to want to be a
part in helping to serve all the needy and eventually the Rescue Missions have more than enough help with feeding and giving out presents to the homeless people. I served at the Visalia Rescue Mission just last year and was very moved when I saw how much the needy were surprised when they saw just a little present, such as for kids a baby doll or a stuffed animal and for parents just a small coffee cup or maybe even a hand sanitizer.
I believe and hope that every year, more and more people will realize how special this really
is and how thankful the needy are for our help. I hope that the people who haven't yet served at
the Rescue Mission will go at least one Christmas morning and serve the poor, once you do, it
will be a memory that you can share all throughout your life as one of the happiest times.
Moving people when you tell them and making them want to do the same as you did, no matter
where they live.
All of the people that have been to the Visalia Rescue Mission have all said that they would
love to go again, even though it is on Christmas morning, serving the needy their first Christmas
meal and giving them their first Christmas presents. I believe that everyone should go at least
five times within their lifetime, just to experience and see how they feel for a couple hours and
just watch as their day begins to brighten.
